Trauma counselling

When we refer to Trauma we speak of any incident that has cause damage to the persons nervous system, leaving them in a state of fear or shock. It can take many years for a trauma to manifest its symptoms because we are all masters at coping and surviving. sometimes we are not safe to feel the trauma when it occurs so we block it and forget it until we are in a safe space to handle what we have experienced.

Its common for people to totally forget a trauma and move on in their lives, especially if it happens during childhood, and this can last for many years, but at some stage it will surface usually when you are at your best and happy because now it is safe to deal with the trauma.

With Trauma Counselling we treat the client gently and slowly use techniques to help them get rid of the fears and anxieties until they feel comfortable to talk about their trauma. Most clients present with panic attacks and they don’t know why they are having them, others have full memory of what ever traumatised them and can talk about it freely and deal with the stress and emotional content of the memory. What is traumatic for a child is often not for an adult so often the adult cant understand why they would have been so effected by the incident, but this is when the inner child that is in us all comes in to therapy, and we use techniques to help the client reconnect with their inner child and  heal the issue once and for all.

Trauma can take many forms, here are some of the most common ones I have treated in my therapy room.

  • Bullying in Child hood or at work
  • Sexual abuse or violence or both
  • Accidents
  • Bereavement of loved one or pet
  • loss of any kind , friend family or financial
  • Illness or bad news
  • Rejection or abandonment
